Eating pumpkin pie on math day

Math Mania Monday!

Today was filled with math! We played math board games, used math manipulatives, and even played some math games on the computer. Math + SBLC = FUN!!!

HEB Adventure

On Wednesday, we had the opportunity to explore our local HEB. I think most of our superheroes would agree if you asked them...it was awesome! We toured the Produce, Seafood, Meat, Deli, Healthy Living, and Dairy Departments, getting some tasty samples along the way. :) A few of our real-life applications include analyzing food labels, measuring and calculating cost of produce, and choosing healthy snacks to limit sugar intake. Our walk there also presented the opportunity to apply our knowledge of cardinal directions and elapsed time. Discussing the MyPlate icon with Miss Shannon and Miss Daphne in Produce. Scientists observing, describing, and measuring properties of pomegranates, kiwis, and peppers. Something you don't see everyday: cow tongue! Meeting some new friends in the Seafood Department. What a deliciously fun day!

Wonderful Westcave!

One week ago today, second grade ventured off to Westcave Preserve. Some talking points? We explored the savannah and Heinz Branch Creek, observing lots of different plants like the bald cypress, live oak, and sycamore trees. In the grotto, we saw a waterfall, a cave, soda straw stalactites, stalagmites, cowcreek limestone, and travertine. We also examined beauty berries, ball moss, prickly pear cactus, and scat. We packed a lot of learning into our day!

Counting Cans

The SBLC has collected 323 cans for the Capital Area Food Bank. Check out our food can bar graph.
