Turkeys and Scarecrows and Caves, oh my!

We've been busy in the SBLC!

Our students have been excitedly preparing a Thanksgiving Program to share with you next Friday, November 18 from 2:00-2:45 in the cafeteria. An invitation will be sent home Monday, so be on the lookout!

Second graders will be going to Westcave Preserve on Tuesday, November 22. We will leave Kiker at 9:00am and return at approximately 2:00pm. Students need to bring a sack lunch and wear comfortable clothes/tennis shoes as there is a lot of walking. If you are interested in attending as a chaperone, please contact Mrs. Blake: jennifer.blake@austinisd.org.

Our scarecrow activity provided some excellent team-building opportunities! They started by making a plan and then broke into teams to construct different parts of the scarecrow. The most challenging part was figuring out how to put it all together!


 

The students really enjoyed working together to create their literary characters of choice: Willy Wonka, Dumbledore, and Athena. :)

    We loved the play! Brilliant directing, casting, screenplay, props, special effects, and acting. Thank you for all of the hard work you did to make it happen.

    I learned that there are two statues of Annie Moore : 1 in the place of her departure and 1 on Elise Island.

    that was so fun and we got make all those scarecrows and they were so slumped over and laying down . there was wili wonka,dumbledore, and athena . Wili Wonka looked like he had eaten so much chocolate(really hay) he was so fat .

Reaching Out, Learning about Each Other and the World

This week our focus has challenged us to "be the world to one," rather than just "one in the world." Discussions have run deep with how our actions and words truly have an impact on everyone around us. We also talked about how all of us: humanity and nature make the music of this world, and without our unique voice, that music is missing something. Discover what you want to add to the music. Speak up. Say something. We wrestled with big history this week. We celebrated  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and The Little Rock 5, Ruby Bridges, and the thousands of others who took a stand during the Civil Rights Era. To understand this better, we looked at primary source pictures -- these leaders, their actions, their speeches, their marches -- which brought them to life.
