...have had a fantastic week!
In social studies, we learned about various United States symbols, what they represent, and how and why some have changed over time. After some analyzation, we chose symbols that we feel are most important to include in our own symbol quilt!
In reading, we have explored fluent reading and selecting Just Right books. We have learned that fluency means reading smoothly, like we are talking, with expression. Second Graders are practicing what they need to be paying attention to in the text to help them know how their voice should sound. We'll be reading and teaching this to some First Graders soon! Third and Fourth Grade have been annotating their reading...looking for places to write down our thinking and identify themes, signposts, and other important moments.
In language arts, our spelling centers are getting into swing, and we are moving through the writing process. Brainstorming, narrowing ideas to small moments, selecting the tone/emotion we want to convey...all a part of planning BEFORE we even draft! They are becoming masters of their craft! Third Grade has been prolific in their poetry writing this week!!
This week in math we voted on our SBLC money that the students designed. This money will be used at our SBLC. We sure do have some great artist in our group.
Fourth graders worked on rounding numbers to the nearest thousand, ten thousand, and hundred thousand. They also enjoyed using dry erase paddles to quickly show their rounding answers. Third graders worked on rounding to the nearest ten, hundred, and thousand. They used dry erase board to explain their rounding strategies. Second graders showed how to write numbers in different ways. We also read the book The Number Machine that focused on ones, ten, and hundreds.

In Project Block, we've learned about resilience, optimism, and working together! We had some activities which got us practicing right away! We know that developing these qualities in ourselves is creating a more integrated brain, which helps us work to our potential (and we had fun doing it!)!
Using only paperclips, we were challenged to save Sam the gummy worm by placing a Lifesaver gummy around him!

We also celebrated Constitution Day by breaking apart the Preamble to full understand what those important words really mean. We had some great discussion and a lot of fun putting together our Preamble Puzzles!
