It's Been a Beautiful, Busy Week!

We started our week with the opportunity to share all our wonderful interviews. The students were so proud to share what they learned about their interviewee!

Third and Fourth Graders had a chance to show what they know with Benchmark Testing. Fourth took writing and math, Third completed math and reading. Fourth will finish up with reading next Wednesday.

Third and fourth graders also reviewed for the math benchmark this week. Second graders found the value of a collections of coins.

On Wednesday, second graders enjoyed a gorgeous day at Westcave Preserve. We learned so much about this natural wonder and the wildlife that inhabits it.

We learned about different types of rock like limestone, shake and flint. Ask your second grade scientist what Pedernales means!

We got to go behind a waterfall, explore caves, and see trees that were over 300 years old!

Our canned food collection is growing quickly! We love how the kids are joining in the spirit of giving and bringing items to donate. We still have all next week as well!

Portfolios come home today! Be sure to take some time this weekend to sit down together and review. Their notebooks show a lot of hard work!

Third graders go to the Nutcracker on Wednesday, Dec. 9. We will be leaving Kiker at 10:15 and we'll return about 1:30.  Please pack a lunch for your third graders.  We will be eating lunch in the classroom after we return.

Have a great weekend!

Reaching Out, Learning about Each Other and the World

This week our focus has challenged us to "be the world to one," rather than just "one in the world." Discussions have run deep with how our actions and words truly have an impact on everyone around us. We also talked about how all of us: humanity and nature make the music of this world, and without our unique voice, that music is missing something. Discover what you want to add to the music. Speak up. Say something. We wrestled with big history this week. We celebrated  Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and The Little Rock 5, Ruby Bridges, and the thousands of others who took a stand during the Civil Rights Era. To understand this better, we looked at primary source pictures -- these leaders, their actions, their speeches, their marches -- which brought them to life. We examined timelines and asked powerful questions. Again, another opportunity to look at the world -- right now -- and ask, "How can I be the world to one? What do I want to say that makes...
