Ecosystems and More

Seems like the weeks are flying by! A few more weeks to go and we're still working hard.

In ELA we have been reading short texts and enjoying some picture books as well. One of the most fascinating articles we analyzed was an expository piece about how stress is actually positive -- and it is in our control how we perceive situations. It's so empowering to realize that we have control over our own thoughts and reactions to handle ANYTHING! We've also been using our reading skills to gather information for our ecosystem research. It's exciting to use our reading and writing in an authentic way!

In math, we have been reflecting on how many topics we covered through the year so far! As we review each topic and related math vocabulary, it's impressive to realize how much we have learned over the past 9 months. We continue to become more proficient with logical reasoning and attention to detail as we analyze a few review questions and play a variety of math review games.

Science has been full of observations on our ecocolumns and a deeper understanding of how producers play an important role. We used some helpful nonfiction text to support our understanding that our aquarium plants provide shelter, food, and movement of carbon dioxide/oxygen through the water. We also welcomed a box turtle as our last classroom pet of the year.

Fourth Graders will be attending the Austin Young People's Symphony performance on Monday, so don't forget to dress up, bring a sack lunch, and be ready for a special morning.

Enjoy your weekend!
