We were so proud of our SBLC Kiker talent show participants! The first annual Kiker talent show was a fabulous celebration of creativity, courage, and effort. Audience members and performers alike enjoyed the experience and many of our students are already planning their auditions for next year.
In science, every student has become an expert on at least one organism in our terrariums or aquariums. Each scientist learned all about his or her organism, annotated text, and then considered what he or she learned. Then each created a mini poster to inform others about the organism. This week's gallery walk was a powerful opportunity for us to learn from each other and to make authentic text-world connections.
Mathematicians calculated homework averages for the last 9 weeks and are using these last few days to finish numerical fluency and logical reasoning puzzles like Tile Math. Many are close to reaching their goal, and all have improved in their persistence over the year. We also want our number sense and numerical fluency to continue growing over the summer, so we're learning about a few new puzzle opportunities like magic squares and a few collaborative games that all can play at home through the summer.
Our writers have been busy creating, revising, and finalizing personal projects. They worked through the process of drafting through publishing, and shared them with each other this Friday. We also received our poetry anthologies today -- such a treasure to have a piece from each member of our writing community!
Social scientists read and responded to text about how our physical brain waves actually sync when we collaborate! Amazing information which supports how we are stronger together! The article not only provided new knowledge but sparked new questions as well.
Here's a glimpse into next week:
Monday -- 3rd grade picnic on the blacktop (t-shirt, yearbook, and sack lunch needed)
Weds. -- Breakfast and the Paper
Thursday -- SBLC store, 4th grade picnic on the blacktop (t-shirt, yearbook, towel for sitting)
Friday -- SBLC picnic at the pool park (t-shirt, game balls, towel)
Sunscreen should be applied at home, but if you are comfortable with your child re-applying themselves, feel free to send some in. Hats/caps are fine for above activities.
Happy Weekend!
