Wow. Our week has been full.
As consumers, we enjoyed the Second Grade's annual Market Day. Great finds, and so much creativity!
On Wednesday, Third Grade went to the Long Center for one act of The Nutcracker Ballet. They enjoyed dressing up and getting off campus to experience this artistic expression!
Our signs received their final pieces -- THANK YOU Mr. Swearingen for your engineering and carpentry expertise and help!
In our humanities, we've been analyzing poetry and researching for our Texas Heroes vignette that we are writing. We have been learning about all sorts of Texas History...and are excited to share that through the eyes of a famous Texas Oak! We also wrote thanks to Mr. Dodson, the man who made our Hands Across Kiker possible in November with his drone and to Mr. Swearingen for his Keyhole Garden help. Authentic reasons to write!
SBLC mathematicians solved their first Match it puzzles this week! This 4-part experience challenges each student to solve a multidigit subtraction, multiplication, and division problem. Then they find the sum of those first three problems. If their sum matches the Match it answer, then they know they worked with accuracy. We're learning to slow down to improve accuracy, to solve problems with a variety of strategies, and that working carefully the first time often leads to a better final outcome -- lots of life lessons for sure! We also participated in Hour of Code this week. Our resilience muscles got a workout and many of us had our very first experience with computer programming. In case your student would like to enjoy more coding at home, here's a link to the site we used in class: Hour of Code
In science, we're gaining expertise about our various science project topics. Each member of our small groups is becoming an expert using a particular source. This includes reading and understanding his or her source with nonfiction signposts, making meaningful connections to the upcoming experiment, and developing a deep understanding of 3 or more big ideas. This expertise will help us to design precise experiments and craft thoughtful hypotheses in the future.
Have a fantastic weekend!
