Hooray! Now it's your turn at home! Parents, we did this in class, but I will lead you through tonight's step by step so you know what's expected. :)
ALL GRADES:
SECOND GRADE:
Your first number is 18. Look at the chart where it has the 18. You will be proofreading and editing this sentence and writing it correctly on your paper. In other words, find the mistakes!
Next is number 17. Look at the sentence on the chart next to 17. It is asking you to find the subject and predicate in the sentence and write them on the lines. Remember, the subject is the main character of the sentence and the predicate is the action they are doing (it needs a verb!).
Your next number is 1. Look at the picture next to number 1 on the chart. It is asking you to write the beginning and ending sounds to the word it is showing you a picture of.
Finally, number 2. It has a missing blank area. That is asking you to write the vowel that comes inside the word, and to write the word out correctly and completely.
Now, you are done with the top part. The bottom is asking you to do the same skills, only with your own words. This is where you show that you really understand how to use the skills for yourself!
Under my own Mountain Language, you will NOT use the chart. You will write a sentence you create with correct punctuation, spelling and grammar first. Secondly, using that same sentence, you will identify your subject and predicate. Next, you will write three words of your choosing and underline the beginning sounds. Finally, you will write three words of your choosing with the same medial (in the middle) vowel sounds.

THIRD AND FOURTH GRADE:
You begin with number 13. You will look at number 13 on your chart. The sentence is incorrect - it is your job to proofread it and catch all the errors. Write it the way it should be, correctly, on your paper.
Next, move to number 9. It will show you a sentence where you need to identify and write the subject (the main character) of the sentence and the predicate (what the subject is doing - remember the verb!).
Number 1 is your next question to work with. You are to first: identify whether it is a common noun or a proper noun on the first line. On the second line, if you said it was a proper noun in the first part, you need to write the word again, using capitalization!
Finally, you will be doing number 2, identifying singular and plural. Careful! It asks you to write the singular form if it's written as a plural OR write the plural form if they show you the singular.
Now, once the top is done, you don't have to use the chart anymore. You will be showing you can do these skills on your own with your own writing!

DeleteWow! I never realized how fun it could be to do Mountain Language at home! I hope it stays this way. I think this will help me with all my grammar problems I need to fix. I hope this will also help us find good books. (From the proper noun section).
