As another busy week comes to a close, we've got to give credit to our SBLC Shooting Stars...your effort has been out of this world!
In project, we've had a variety of things going - a great visit from the new counselor, Ms. Ward, we shared our fabulous and different ways we completed monthly homework, and enjoyed another cozy Breakfast and the Paper! We began exploring a wonderful book about becoming a problem solver -- Two by Kathryn Otoshi.
Second grade used the book Monsters' Monster to formulate our first summary using our new knowledge of structure. It makes it so much easier to discern main ideas and themes from the many details in books. We all have been building our base of stories with free writing.
On Friday, we enjoyed Chris Van Allsburgs' lesson in acceptance in The Widow's Broom. In this symbolic tale, we learned how stereotyping can lead to inaccurate judgements, but one person CAN make a difference.
Our focus in science is the affect of heat energy on matter. We've spent the week observing, experimenting, and recording our ideas about how heat changes things and where we see it in our everyday lives.
Matter can change states, from solid to liquid and back again...
Fourth graders shared what they knew about multiplying numbers.
Third graders showed what they knew about subtracting with regrouping on dry erase boards.

In reading and language arts, we've been closely examining the structure of fiction. Third Grade is getting to know Catherine, a thoughtful yet frustrated girl...we are creating theories about her struggles and watching our signposts for ways to hone our predictions and revise our thoughts about her struggle.
Like Third, Fourth Grade is using signposts with their character, Valli. We are delving deep with her, learning not only about her personal struggle, but also about the plight of any in villages of India.

...and we can lessen the effects of heat energy by insulating objects. Here we are designing and constructing our own "coolers"!
In math second grade had fun adding with regrouping. They played a game with a partner called Soccer Sums and read a booked titled Nature's Numbers.
On the 31st all classes enjoyed using skittles to either make arrays, graph them, or make fractions.
On Friday, we celebrated our fabulous Ms. Reiman! A few of our musicians gave her a special happy birthday, and we showered her with wishes for a wonderful day and year ahead.
We've filled out our wish lists for the Book Fair next week, so be sure to check those out!
Have a great weekend - hope to see many faces at the Fun Run on Saturday -- 8:30 for 2nd, 9:15 for 3rd and 4th! Should be a chilly and exhilarating time!
