Who knew the middle of May would be so busy!? We began our week wrapping up and sharing the culminating activities from each of our project groups. We took time to reflect on our own work, and we also had a chance to view and compliment others' hard work.
In reading, we are moving through our novels, with hopes of getting to the end before school is over! Third Grade is anxiously watching Peter in Pax, and Fourth is watching WWII unfold through Leon's eyes. Second graders have honed in on fiction response and summarization. All three grade levels have been composing either expository or narratives this week.
Third Grade ended the week with our Vocabulary Parade! We selected words and dressed up to share the meaning of the word -- all of Kiker turned out in the hallways to watch!
Our annual spring Book Fair was held this week, and we are so grateful to see all our students so excited about buying BOOKS! Thanks so much for the generosity of each one of those who bought one of our Wish List books. We will enjoy reading them, and they will remind us of you for many years to come.

In math this week 4th graders are working on a graphing project. First they surveyed the class and now are graphing the data.
Third graders are working hard on their Balobbyland project. They've been designing and finding the area of seven rooms in their mini land.
Second graders ended their unit on fractions and had an assessment over
concepts.
In science, second graders spent the week finalizing their Life Cycle scripts and moved on to prop preparation. They should be ready to perform their masterpieces next week!
Third grade enjoyed an adventure at the Sauer-Beckmann Living History Farm on Tuesday. Charter buses ensured that our journey to Stonewall, TX was almost as exciting as the destination Quote of the trip: "This is the life!"
Mr. Steve taught filled our minds with facts about the farm, the families who owned it, and what life was like before cell phones, video games, and air conditioning.
We lucked out and missed most of the rain, which allowed us to enjoy a hike with some beautiful scenery, including fields of Texas wildflowers.
It took quite a bit of effort...
...but most of us agreed it was worth it!
Fourth grade continued their study of Texas History, ending the week with some nonfiction reading about the great Battle of the Alamo. Although they didn't make the trek to San Antonio, they did complete a virtual tour to see the grounds and get a better understanding of what the experience must have been like.
Today, they had an opportunity to break out their sophisticated sides and enjoy a sampling of the Austin Symphony. We enjoyed pieces by some of the most innovative musicians, including Beethoven, Berlioz, Marquez, and Gershwin.
The definitely represented Kiker and the SBLC well. I mean, look at these cool cats!

Once we arrived, we had our game faces on and were ready to learn!

We brought a bit of the farm back with us and made our own butter on Wednesday. After almost 30 minutes of shaking, we turned our liquid cream into solid butter.
It took quite a bit of effort...
...but most of us agreed it was worth it!
Yum!

These soon-to-be fifth graders were wonderful ladies and gentleman.
