This week we reflected on how our systems for getting to school on time and having our materials are working. We focused on what we needed to have here, and how we might organize them to ensure that they are ready for us each morning. Hopefully, as we make things more efficient and routine, we will minimize forgetting and maximize our time.
In project, we've begun learning about our sister school, Allison. We have been comparing and contrasting some statistics between our two locations and schools.
Third and Fourth had Benchmarks this week on Wednesday and Thursday. We worked so diligently for a long period of time! Great effort to all our kiddos! Thank you Second Grade, for being flexible and Mrs. Blake, for all the amazing learning time they had with you!
Second Grade is delving deep with learning nonfiction text features. Not simply what they are, but how they relate to the story and how they help us understand the text in the article itself! Third Grade completed their review of nonfiction signposts and are actively annotating nonfiction articles. We learned about the man who invented basketball and how it's changed! Fourth Grade completed their novel...wow. What an amazing journey. We wrote our Message in the Bottle as our character...powerful application of what we have learned. We will be writing to the author next week.
In social studies, we've learned about various important historical figures, their contributions, and character traits. While there were many differences between an inventor, an astronaut, and a barnstormer, we identified similarities between them. Second graders are applying what they learned by researching and presenting one of their heroes to the class. Stay tuned for more details next week!
2nd graders strengthened their understanding of subtraction with a fun game that you can try at home. It's called the subtraction game and it's been interesting to share strategies that help us create the smallest difference to win each round. 3rd graders are almost finished with their financial literacy unit and are full of new vocabulary and lots of big ideas about how money moves through our economy. We had some thoughtful discussions about how credit works, and will continue to explore ideas about interest. 4th grade has generated an impressive list of strategies for comparing fractions and for generating equivalent fractions. We'll post a pic of our fraction/decimal number line next week as we prepare for our next unit on data analysis.
Enjoy your 3-day weekend!
