Marching into March!

This week's focus was believing the best in others. We found lots of opportunities to reflect on this, especially when there were disagreements. Perspective taking and positive thinking always provides a framework to protect and grow the relationship, even when things may not be going the way we think they "should" or the way we think people "should" act towards us.

In reading and writing, Fourth is preparing with lots of expository, sentence analysis, and detail expanding! We know that we are ready for STAAR in a few weeks, and TEAM SBLC is so proud of all their hard work.  Third Graders are finishing their narrative poetry book, and are reinforcing skills as sentence analyzers. Second is working on a new skill, inference. We've seen how the text clues, plus our schema, gives us a way to see things that the text might not exactly say. It's a lifelong skill to have as a good reader!  We've all been brushing up on our responses to literature as well!

Fourth grade mathematicians classified and analyzed polygons this week, using their knowledge of angles and lines to describe shapes.  We discussed quadrilaterals of all sorts and ended the week with several rounds of a new game called Polygon Capture.  Third graders continued exploring area and perimeter with tiles, making observations about relationships between length and width of rectangles. Second grade worked with 2-dimensional shapes this week, using spatial reasoning and multiplication to predict and measure area.  They ended the week with a few competitive rounds of the Last Block Game.

In science, we continued our study of the water cycle. We created and explained diagrams depicting the steps of the water cycle to our fellow hydrologists.

We investigated and demonstrated evaporation, condensation, and precipitation.

We are culminating our studies with various projects: telling the story of the water cycle from the perspective of a water molecule, creating three-dimensional representations of the water cycle, and researching locations that experience the water cycle in different ways. Water has never been so fun!

Enjoy the weekend,
Team SBLC
